Movie Review: How to Train Your Dragon The Hidden World

Dreamworks Animation has released another installment of one of their best-animated franchises:  How To Train Your Dragon – The Hidden World.  We go back to the ancient Viking island where Hiccup and toothless met and became best friends.  In the first film, we meet Hiccup who is the son of the Viking King and next in line to lead the throne.  The Vikings believed they had to kill dragons in order to survive but after a fateful meeting of Hiccup and his future best friend toothless, things changed.  Toothless lead the revolt against the giant dragon who was forcing the other dragons to terrorize the Vikings and the Vikings, in turn, adopt dragons.  Sometime later, a new enemy would seek to destroy the friendship of Hiccup and Toothless.

In The Hidden World, Hiccup is now the leader of his people and the Vikings are facing another foe.  Hiccup and his team have been causing disruption to dragon hunters.  They are going out on raids and freeing dragons from these dragon hunters.  This is causing problems in the dragon trade as well as overpopulation of dragons of the Viking island. Out of desperation, the dragon hunters recruit someone to take toothless and Hiccup out of the equation.

Critical Commentary:  The movie much like the other two are great family fun.  If you liked the other films, you will love this film.  I took my son and he liked it but not as much as his dad who has followed Hiccup and Toothless for years.   I actually got a little choked up at the end of the movie.  I am not sure Dreamworks will end the franchise, but they have suggested as such.  I selfishly hope to see more adventures of Hiccup and Toothless.
